Presentations on Canadian Explorers

I got most of the groups when they went up to talk about who their explorer was. We have 3 Canadian explorers; John Cabot, Henry Hudson, and Samuel de Champlain. They got a printed information sheet to use as well as time to research on the computers, Tuesday.

Track and Field Day postponed

Track and Field Day has been postponed again!!!! Due to the rain we got today and over the weekend, we have a pool in the field. Since there are no swimming events scheduled (haha- from Mrs. Leonard this morning-) we will reschedule the track and field day to probably after spring break.
Spring Break is March 10-19th by the way :)
Watch for updates, but it will be regular days this week at school.

REMEMBER Canada flags are due THIS Friday the 26th. The Read-a-thon for ice cream also ends on this day.

Homework

I told the students that because we did not have school on Monday, Monday on the spelling homework packet is optional. (still great if they do all 4 days :) )

Wednesday the math homework page (that should go home Monday-Thursday, be turned in Tuesday-Friday) will be a little different. I ran out of our allotted copies and so am recycling old morning math pages and early math chapter tests for morning and homework math. Hopefully the copies will be restored for Thursday. If not, more recycling :)

There are enough laptops in our laptop cart for each student to have their own on their desk with headphones. Last week it was a lot of work to get them all set up and going, but think we will try it again! :)

Canada Project and wish list

O’ Canada!

We have started studying about our neighbor country to the north, Canada. The project for home is to make a poster size Canadian flag to display in our hallway and class.

What you need:

1. White poster board

2. Something red (paper, markers, felt, paint…)

3. Maple leaf (they can bring the plain white poster board to school and I will trace the lines and maple leaf onto the board.)

4. This should be completed after I trace the leaf and lines on the white board at home

5. Name on the back

There are examples in the hall now that the students can see, please call or send a note if you have questions!

Foil Boat Contest

I took advantage of having only 12 students on Friday by inviting 4 of Mrs. Tengei's class over. We made 4 groups of 4 students. I gave them foil and paper clips with the directions that they had to create a boat that will float in water and hold pennies. The boat that held the most won. We didn't get any pictures of the winning boat, but it held 86 (I think!??) pennies. The group who created it was: Tristan, Shelby, Tessa and Gillian. We learned how a wider and flatter boat will be more stable than a deep and pointy bottom.

Flu and Strep

I wanted to let you all know that there are letters going home about many illnesses in our school and classroom. Today we started the day with only 13, finishing with 12. There have been 2 confirmed cases of strep and others are experiencing a fever with sore throat or flu like symptoms. If your student has any symptoms or a fever with in 24 hours, please keep them home. We have been airing out and cleaning the room but with germs going around- they are bound to be shared. Call if you have any questions, stay healthy!!

Sweetheart Math

This was idea of learning practicing probability, multiplication and division with moving sweethearts into groups. We will finish today, the students were energetic about it :)
