End of the year

Tomorrow morning (Wednesday) channel 5 will be here at 9am. Academy of Arizona, a charter school in Phoenix, was broken into this last weekend and had $10,000 of equipment damaged and stolen. Tomorrow morning we will have a special assembly to present $350 that Mr. Z's class has earned from the school store with the news here. They also all made cards to give to the principal of the school. My favorite quote from a card in our class was, "I am sorry the STAFF in your school was robbed" (I asked if all the teachers were gone now!)

Also tomorrow we will have the read a thon around the world- they can bring A blanket/ pillow (not their bed!) a book they like and a special snack. In the afternoon we will move the desks so they can get comfortable on the floor and read- keeping track of how many pages they read to equal miles on a map...

Friday is an early release day (12:30)and most of left over work will be sent home then.
I think this is all now...have a good rest of the week!

This next week: May 17-21st

On Monday I will be sending home a"R is for Recipe" page. My hope is that you will take some time to look for an easy "Kid friendly" recipe that the student likes to write it out. When they return the recipe, they will type it up on this blog. Then, throughout the summer when you want to try something new to make together- get on here and look up a new recipe! Participation is requested, but not counted like homework.

FYI- there will also be a yellow parent survey going home on Monday that needs to be returned asap.

Starting early/ mid week I will introduce our:

End of the year showcase:

Choose 3 of the options to be completed by Wednesday, May 26th

Read a chapter book, more than 100 pages long, write out a book report that is in depth. Full sentences, correct spelling and grammar, using all details from the story.

3. Are you confident in your multiplication facts? Prove it by going in front of the class and answering 25 random multiplication problems out loud within 5 seconds.

4. Pass the math packet with 85% correct (you must answer on your own, but can have help at home). This will cover most everything we worked on this year.

5. Label and color, carefully in the lines, a world map and United States map. Complete the geography questions.

6. Look up more in depth a social studies topic we have learned about this year (Vikings, Canada, Pilgrims and Mayflower, Rome…) and write 2 paragraphs of new information with a picture to share with the class.

this is still a work in progress, but I wanted something for them to work for at home and school- that correlated a little of everything we worked on this year. This will be the last week for a spelling packet (last spelling test will be this Friday the 21st) and probably the last for math homework. I want them to read and work on these projects instead for next week.

Let me know if you have questions!
